Default Impressions of Meg's 105

I have used 83 and 80 with great results but I see more and more guys using the 105. It is a 12 on the cut scale. Do you need to do a pass with 80 or less after it.

Just wanted to see everyones thought's on it.

It depends on the clear coat of the car.

If it's the S2 you're working on, YES, you have to follow it up with a 2nd, sometimes 3rd step. Also, it flashes EXTREMELY fast, we're talking 30-45 seconds of working time. So you don't step up in speed, you hit it at 1800rpms, and keep it there for the duration of working time.

Kevin, the new formulation of M105, just released, is approved for dual-action polisher, but there aren't many reviews yet about how well it works with the D/A. But if you should get 105, you should also get M205, also approved for D/A, to be used as a finishing polish.

Perhaps more interesting for folks like us are the new consumer-line products that have just been released: SwirlX, Scratch X 2.0, and Ultimate Compound. All are approved for D/A (but not rotary); all are based on Meguiar's new micro-abrasive technology. SwirlX is said to be a bit more aggressive, depending on pad choice and technique, than M83. So I am wondering if SwirlX and M205 might be a superior combination than 80/83 (see Dave McLean's recent review of M205).

I'm going to wait for the reviews, though, which should be forthcoming in the next few months. One thing for sure, we have more good choices now than we did.

Thanks Al, actually what i did on the S was wash then claybar then 80 then 9 then 7 and then NXT 2.0. It came out really nice. I know the 9 has fillers and the 7 is a pure polish but I think on black it really helps.

I like the deminishing abrasives of the 80 and 83. I am not a pro and it gives me some room to not be perfect.

I like M105. It takes a little getting used to, since it works SO fast, but once you get the hang of it, you can compound an entire car in very little time. With the S, I've found that M105 is overkill for our soft paint (unless the paint is in absolutely horrible condition), and would definitely require two extra polishing steps afterwards

I tried M105 on my S and ended only doing a portion of the car with it. I stick with SIP for our soft clears. I have, however, used nothing but M105 on my friends MB's since the clears are so tough.

I was wondering what the difference is between Meguiars #9 swirl remover and #2 Fine cut cleaner.

If i was to use either of the two, what should be done after using those products before putting on sealant. polish, glaze??

I am not acquainted with #2. It's been around a long time. But #9 is one of the mildest cleaning/polishes, if not mildest, offered by Meguiar's. After polishing with #9 there is nothing left to be done but go to wax.

I do know that some folks use #9 after #2 to remove micro-marring sometimes caused by #2. It is said to be close to #83 in cutting power. If you are using a D/A polisher, there is no reason for you to use #2. Meguiar's has better products for D/A use.

#9 good enought to get light to mild swirls off depending on the pads you use. right??
