Since the weather is getting warmer now, I wash every thursday night. Dry the car. Let it sit in the garage overnight and wax the next morning. This is weekly practice.

 

Wash it whenever it needs it. It stays in the garage unless its nice out, so more often than washing, I use a California duster on it. Works great to get that layer of dust off it, and also will take off road dust.

When I do wash it, my guess it takes 30-45 minutes. Waxing takes maybe another 45-60 minutes.

Tangueray, I'm glad that you and others like you can find passion in life in the form of this car. So few of us do in anything these days. I assume that when Jay Li started this post he wasn't looking for just a bunch of numbers so a bit of insight into my earlier reply. I know you and I got off to a shaky start a while back so my explanation runs the risk of rubbing you the wrong way (it is not meant to). My reply obviously did or you wouldn't have quoted me. I get a thrill from many things in life. I'm a car nut. It just happens I own an S2K now. It's a joy to own and a thrill to drive but it's not the first "special" car I've owned and it won't be the last. I've found joy and thrills in every motorcycle I've ever owned but again, I'll own more. My job is a joy and a thrill every day I go to work but it's not my first job nor will it be my last. I see deadly serious stuff all the time at work. I just can't get that serious about most other stuff in life. I love my wife and I love my daughter. I love the people who are close to me. As for material things....well....love is a bit too strong a word. Washing this car doesn't do for me what it does for you. Don't begrudge me this view because I don't you for yours. Passion is a wonderful thing to have. Mine is just dedicated elsewhere. Maybe in 15 or so more years (I saw your age in another thread) when you've reached the point where I'm at now you too might see mundane in things you once saw passion. For your sake, I hope not. Mine is black, so it's necessary to wash it 2+ times/week. Takes about 1 - 1.5 hours. This does include taking a toothbrush to the inside of the rim.

Everyone has their own point of view on a car - is it a car or is it something more? I will say this. There have been members of this board who have watched my wash and do general cleaning on my car who I think that I have inspired to do the same to theirs. It is sure something when you see an S2000 all cleaned up. It is also something to see one jack stands getting the wheel wells cleaned the underbody cleaned, etc.

To me, well, this car is the second most expensive thing I have ever bought. Do I want it to look nice - you bet. Do I want it to last a long time without rust, etc - you bet. Do I get a lot of satisfaction when people drool over how good my car looks - you bet. Is it just a car - you bet.

Have hard water at home soooo about weekly I go to local you wash place with 5 quarter for 4 min. - before I put in the quarters I do some prep work with Simple Green sponge and a bug removal spray - then spend my $1.25 on "soap" and "rinse" then I use california wiper and artifical chamois to dry off. Total time maybe 15 minutes - later at home may use plexus and spray wax (crystal mist) and Never Dull for the exhaust. Would gladly do hand washing at home - you other folks with soft or regular water are just plain lucky.
