Default How to Clean Wheel Wells

So yesterday I attempted to clean my rear wheel wells by using a Mother's Fender Well Brush and Eagle 1 Wheel and Tire Cleaner. After 30 minutes of spraying and scrubbing, all I ended up with was a black brush and a small silver (car is silverstone) patch in the fender well where the brush and cleaner had successfully penetrated. Am I going about this the right way? If so what do you guys recommend to make this job easier? I've never encountered anything so hard to clean! Thanks guys.

1. checkout our wheel and wheelwell cleaning thread

2. the wheel wells should be black- they are sprayed with a black coating which helps with sound proofing, if i recall correctly

Interesting. I'll snap a picture later to show you what I mean.

If you're seeing silver you scrubbed too hard and removed the wheel well coating. It's easy to fix though. You just buy a spray can of rubber under coating from an auto parts store and re-paint the area with it.

What's crazy is that the rear wheel wells in my new car are carpeted instead of sprayed with an undercoating. It's surprising to me how easy it is to keep clean. The carpet seems to release dirt easily with a strong spray of water from my hose.

very interesting mikeyc-
just to clarify, for new folks, you are not talking about an s2000 that has carpeting in the wheel wells.
interesting idea- and carpet would sure help cut down on road noise!

That's correct! My new car is an Infiniti G35x. My fiancee's Volvo S60 also has carpet in the rear wheel wells, but only a small panel at the back of the wheel well not the whole thing. So, it seems this is the way car companies might be going in the future.
