I don't see the black areas you refer to, what I see are the normal heat discolorations for stainless. After washing the area with a soap, try a mild abrasive household cleaner and a cloth. Use long length wise strokes to minimize a wear pattern. If this does not work, reply back and I will give you information on an acid treatment that will remove the discoloration.

Give it a once over with some 0000 steal wool and use MAAZ Metal Polish Concentrated Creme to finish it off.

I just did some work on my Greddy SE, and our intentions are different. What I can say though is just using some 3M rubbing compound on a small 6" electric polisher, then going back over it all with Griots metal polish got rid of all the dirt, grim, and golden color. Give that a try to clean it up!

Oh yea, I did the compound and polish on the entire cans and as you can see from some of the pics, they look better than new. The whole system was dirty and had some yellowish tint from getting really hot. Looks amazing now!

You can use 800 grit and work your way up to 2500 grit for scratches. I use plain old Mothers mag polish and a 1/4" drive rag wheel in a drill to finish up. It's mirror perfect and pretty easy. I'm shinning up a set of aluminum ap2v1's the same way, and they look like adrs2k's tips.
