Default Help! Removing Exhaust Stains From Rear Bumper?

Hey guys. I've got some nasty exhaust stains on my rear bumper.

Looks like this:

These pics were taken AFTER I washed that area...twice.

Is there anything I can use to get this crud off w/out damaging the clearcoat/paint?? Any and all suggestions appreciated.

Thanks.

It looks like the paint actually melted from the heat of the exhaust being that close to it...I'm not sure you can do anything except sand and repaint the bumper. I'm no expert just my humble opinion

I don't think so. If you run your hand over the discolored areas, it's still smooth, just like the clear areas.

i would first clay it (using a clay that is a few generations old), then polish with a mild polish first and then if needed go more aggressive.
that should do it-
then i would do what i could to move the exhaust tips a bit more out than they are- they are too short for that bumper, which is the cause of the stains.

Probably a result of running the car rich with the SC. Longer exhaust pipes may be the only solution to it happening again after you try ther clay and polish.

Thx guys. I plan on having the exhaust extended out next month. In the meantime, I'll try wanabe's clay bar/polish suggestion.
