help with polisher and polishing
alright so i just bought a polisher and i'm thinking its a little to heavy duty.
but anyways i bought a brand new milwaukee heavy duty polisher 5455 for 25 dollars
and i'm wondering if i can even use it on my car..
if so what all do i need to remove some swirls and get a nice shine?
any tips would also be appreciated.
thanks guys

You have yourself a rotary polisher and sounds like you got a great buy. Go down to the local junk yard and get yourself some panels to practice on. I know I wouldn't chance polishing my S2000 with a rotary until I was confident I could do so without damaging it.
You need to get yourself some pads and polishes. I'm sure the brethren will be happy to offer their recommendations. I do not use a rotary, so I'm afraid I can't be of much help. Good luck!

agree and do some reading too
you have a heavy duty machine that can burn paint if you are not careful. learning with a random orbital is easiest. second easiest is to learn on something that doesnt matter, like a junker.
imo, pads are not the first concern. they are important and will become even more important when you are ready to move away from a test vehicle.
as usual, my three cents when two would do !!

What is the rpm range on it? does it have a dial to adjust the speed?
on the makita, 1 on the speed dial = 600 rpm's.
If it has adjustable speeds, good. Another thing, the spindle for the backing plate. if you can measure it, do so. if it's 5/8, then you can get smaller bp's for the buffer. the biggest pad you will probably need is 5.5" on a car like the s2k. the other cool thing about switching BP's is that you can get a smaller one to use with 4" pads for smaller areas.
good pads to get would be the uber pads, which our sponsor, detailers domain sells. he also carries backing plates for rotaries, and polishes as well.
I recomend menzerna polishes.
any more questions, feel free to ask.
post up some pics of the car, and the swirls, and it will help us recomend products, like pad/polish combos to use.

Lol, where do you find a brand new for $25? That's crazy cheap!
Here's some specs though:

Jeepers. Slowest (and fastest) that thing will run is 1750? I understand it was a bargain, but...can you take it back?
If you keep it, I'm with the others. Learn on junk panels. Particularly if you've never used any other sort of buffer. Better safe than sorry.
