Default Hazing Issues with the M105/205 Combo, Looking for Suggestions *PICS*

I posted this over on the Meguairs forums and thought I probably should post this over here as well, since I'm more likely to catch an expert on the S2000's paint.

I bought a 2006 Honda S2000 that has a ridiculous amount of heavy swirls and scratches for it's age/mileage. I bought the M105/205 combo when I bought the car, but was immediately frustrated with the M105 and I went back to my M80/83 with decent results. After doing a lot of reading, I think I've found my problem with the M105 and I gave it another shot this weekend.

With my Dual Action Polisher, I made a passes with M105 on a Lake Country Orange, light cutting pad (Speed 6), followed up with M205 on a Lake Country White, polishing pad (Speed 4). The results are MUCH better than I was expecting and I'm pretty pleased thus far. However, I'm having hazing issues that I can't resolve.

I later attempted a few passes with the M205 on a Lake Country Black Gray, finishing pad. While better, I'm still having the hazing issues.

I have an idea as to what I may try next, but I wanted to get some opinions or suggestions first. Please let me know what you think.

Here are some pictures of the progress:

Before

After Passes with M105 Orange/M205 White

After M205 with Gray Pad

Thanks for the help!

if I had to guess I would say you are not breaking down the m105 all the way, which would cause haze. I love m105/205 on my black s2k.

I am inclined to think that is not the problem, as M105 and M205 are formulated with non-diminishing abrasives and will not breakdown like the older M80/83 abrasives. Thanks for the input though.

Hrmmmm...... Never used the Megs compounds myself but you may be over working it or using too much compound.

How long are you working it for and how big an area?

How much compound are you using?

I'm making 2-3 over lapping passes with the M105 and 5-6 passes with the M205 on a 2'x2' area. With the pads primed, I use about a 1-1.5" bead of product per pass.

Make sure you are breaking the 105 down all the way. It will hash like that if it's not. Also, try following up with 205 on an orange pad. I've had great results that way

Need to work the M105 longer....or use less product on a smaller area. What rate are you moving? Im usually @ about 1in/sec on the heavier polishes.

I typically average about 2" per second with any pass I make.

Here's a quick update for those interested.

After a suggestion from Mike Stoops, I decided to try an application of Color X. I was really curious as to just how much hazing might have been coming from the M105. I taped off a 2x2 section and using a small amount of product, I made two passes (1 application) with M105 LC White Pad Speed 6. I cut that section in half and made 3 passes (1 application) with Color X on a Meguiars Finishing Pad. Not 100%, as it is challenging at this point just to see the hazing, I have to hold the flashlight at just the right angle. This is very encouraging and I'm anxiously awaiting the 85RD to show up now.

Just out of curiosity, I decide to try one more application of Color X

you are complicating this. the 105 will leave some hashing, its a fairly abrasive compound. put some 205 on an orange pad and it will be perfect.
