Have you ever spilled gear oil on your carpet?
I pilled some Mobil 1 75w90 gear oil on my interior carpet (not floor mat). I absorbed most of it out of the carpet, but the smell is still there. This gear oil really reeks guys. Im sure it can give someone a headache if they sat in there with the windows rolled up.
Here's what i tried so far:
1) rubbed saw dust in the carpet and vacuumed it
result: got most of the oil out but the smell was still there
2) removed the carpet, sprayed simple green all over it, used a brush to scrub area where oil spilled, and sprayed it down with water. I hang dried the carpet for 2 days to make sure the smell goes away.
result: the smell isn't as strong as before but it's still there vividly.
What else should I try? Should i try fabreeze next? Please help!

cornstarch, wd40 (followed by a commercial cleaner), and something called capture (captureclean.com)- would be products that i would consider along with a commercial carpet spray cleaner to get oil.
probably for where you are in the process, capture or an auto carpet cleaner (that helps with smells) would be good choices.
some good odor removal tips here:
