Default Getting the best results using touch up paint.

Like many of you my car has some scratches and paint chips. I don't want to get whole panels painted just for something so little. So what's the best way to get the best results using the OEM touch up paint?

I'm thinking about applying a few layers and then wet sand and polish the area.
