Fixing Black...AGAIN! (Fixed it with PC update)

Being that the buffing from the last shop took out all the small scratches, I am hoping all I need is the 203s (as the most aggressive product). Seem right?

After buffing, wipe off the product with a clean MF towel, let the paint cool, then spray the alcohol mixture on the paint and wipe that off with another MF towel.

There is no guarantee the last shop removed the scratches. For all you know they could of just applied a glaze and thats it. Many times they use wool and or a dirty pad which leaves more severe scratches and buffer marks which require a compound in order to remove them. Its better to have the compound and not need it, than to need it and not have it.

A 12 oz sampler of M105 can be purchased from Auto Detailing Solutions.

Being a detailing baboon myself, I personally find M105 a bit difficult to use. So far, I have found that Megs' Ultimate Compound delivers all the abrasive power I need to remove scratches and swirls from the original Honda paint. It has a longer working time than M105 and doesn't dust like M105 often does. UC is priced well and is available at local auto stores. But my experience is limited in these matters.

Spent the day with my Porter Cable and finally fix my paint. In 93 deg. heat!!!

Used three steps: Menzerna 203s (orange pad), 87mc (green pad), and 85rd (blue pad).

Thanks for all the help!

Pic is with no wax and car was gone over twice with alcohol/water mix.

The front right fender was the worst. Looks good now.

Looks great man. I am flying down to Reno to pick up my 2005 BB next friday, and I am a little worried about the paint (37k miles). The guy says he has always hand waxed it ("close to 100 times" he says), but I am still worried about it with all the BB threads I am reading up on. Is that Porter Cable the one everyone would recommend for Berlina if it ends up needing some work?


Oh, and a noob question, do you guys use the PC for applying AND removing compounds / waxes? Or do you do the removing by hand with microfiber?

Yeah, the Porter Cable 7424 is the machine most people talk about here in the forums....but I think the best Random Orbital machine is actually the Flex. Of course it's nearly 3 times the price. There are a few major advantages with the Flex, much less vibration so it's not as tiring using it for longer periods, and the fact that it has a forced rotation. The PC's rotation stops or at least slows significantly as you apply pressure to it when you're trying to remove a deeper scratch.

So, if money is no object or you plan on working on more than just your own car I'd get the Flex and if you're on a budget get the PC.

Check out the reviews of both over on Autopia.

Personally, I just use the machines for polishes and compounds. Sealants and waxes I apply and remove by hand.

ALL Berlina's or black cars will always need work - they are beautiful when done but with black car you're never done
