Go to any auto parts store and look for "glass scrub." There are different brands out and most should work the same. I know what your talking about. It's like an invisible film that is only there when it rains and the wipers don't wipe well. I had the same thing and the glass scrub worked. It shouldn't cost you more than 5-6 bucks.

I agree with Mike above. You really just need to polish your glass. I did it with 3M Swirl Mark remover last week and it worked wonders.

The steps:
1) Apply some fine-cut polish
2) Polish well with microfiber
3) Buff with clean microfiber
4) Wash windows x2 -- I use Stoner Invisible Glass and newspaper for this
5) Optionally: Buff in two coats of Rain-X (you can apply the second coat onto the first wet coat -- it's just for coverage) to make sure you're windows are great for another 6 months.

If that doesn't work you have to use a machine. This article explains that process. It will fix just about any piece of glass that is not cracked.

I've had a similar problem and have wondered if the wiper blades contribute to the problem. At times they drag and deposit God-awful rubber gunk on the glass. I have to scrape it off.

^ Yep, mine just did that for the first time the other week. There is commercial rubber renewer available but I usually just use rubbing alcohol and clean them a few times with paper towels. That solves the problem for me.

Its oil from driving on the road... other cars sling it up, dont notice it until it rains or when the sun hits the windshield at the right angle the glass looks sparkly like glitter or some $hit is on it... or splotchy looking like water spots? The lower the car is the more common this is... RainX has always done the job for me in taking care of this issue. Be liberal with the first coat of RainX wipe off and do one more coat on it, wipe it off... and POOF! its gone. Hope this helps

Mine was so bad (How bad was it?) that I had to use wax on the glass to clean it.

btw, wax on the plastic window does magic too. Just don't get it on the black vinyl!
