engine and rim cleaning?

well, the problem is where i wash it and where i live are about 15 mins apart. i live in an apt. so i drive to my wife's grandparent's place to do my work.

how dirty is the engine bay?
maybe you can get by with a spot cleaning (just cleaning the areas that are most dirty by hand). or drive over and visit for awhile first. detail the interior while waiting for the car to cool down.
but dont spray a hot engine! (and best not a warm one either, if you can keep from it).

yeah. i was thinking the same thing. i'll do everything else first after visiting to give it time to cool off. but wouldn't it make sense to clean the engine first so i don't get the car wet that i just got done cleaning?
