I remember awhile back, possibly over a year ago, that I read an article saying how engine cleaners like that Turtle Wax one aren't really safe for your engine? I personally clean my engine by a damp cloth and then apply some protectant onto a damp cloth and go over the same areas. As you can tell this is very time consuming and quite tiresome. So are these kinds of products safe now and other than the alternator should everything else be ok to have this stuff sprayed on?

Also check out Bounty's article on Waterless Engine Detailing.
If you want to detail the entire engine bay, then in addition to the article/thread cited above, read through MikeyC's chapter in his S2000 detailing guide. I have also included several links to good articles in my internet resources article.
