Wow! That is one f-ed up backing plate. Did you do any damage to the car when that happened?

No damage was done to the car I polished (A friend's Protege). The white foam pad was still attached to the plate when it split in two, and it just landed on top of the hood. My yellow pad took a beating, though. It flew off when I was polishing the rear driver's side of the car and landed on some mud, but the FlexPlate did not touch the car after it did.

same thing happened to me and had to buy a new one to finish detailing my car. i think the cause is the heat that is created making the yellow rubber softer and boom its detached... also if you dont have the pc flat and level that can cause more stress on the backing plate... thats what i think
