That edge mounting system really bothers me for some reason. i just can't image that metal adapter so close to my paint. Seems like a recipe for eventual disaster or am i being paranoid?

you'll see that the pads are designed so that there is no way the adapter can come in contact with your car. I've been using them for several months now without issue.

Well I guess while we're on the discussion of the Edge pads (and disregarding what the cause was for my FlexPlate to split in the first place 
), would I be better off getting the wave version of the pads or just go with the regular flat ones?
Also, can I use more than one product on a pad if I use a pad cleaner like the one from Pinnacle? Since there's really no specific polish for the Edge pads, I plan on switching between SFX-1 and 3M Perfect-It II Rubbing Compound for the cutting stage.

One of the benefits of Edge pads is that they are two sided. So, you can use one polish and then flip the pad over and use it with a different polish. If you have velcro pads then yes you can clean it and then use it with a different polish. However, it's tough to get a pad 100% dry if using it again immediately. So, expect some seriously wet polish and some sling for a while afterward.

these pads. They really do cause the machine to vibrate significantly less.
