Effectiveness of Wax @ Do-it-Yourself Car Wash
From time to time, I will go to the wash-it-yourself car wash and work over the car. Now, mind you, I never use the brush on the car. I bring my own clean mitt.
But my real question is the effectiveness of the so-called wax that you can spray on and rinse off. I am dubious and skeptical. At best, I would think it would offer limited, thin protection for a short amount of time. Within spray-on waxes, there are likely degrees of effectiveness depending upon what type is used. Some do-it-yourself washaterias are not even marked what brand is used. Who knows; even though it is marked a "wax", it might not truly be one in the strictest sense either.
But I am not really looking for opinions (eg. "I used it a couple of times and it sucks")...moreso those professionals "in the know" that can discuss actual, proven results of using it. Real or quasi-scientific type of tests.
Input appreciated. I've always been curious about this.
Thanks,
Eggman.

good question, and welcome to the wacko board!!
without trying to be too smarta*s:
-yes there are different levels of effectiveness of those waxes -
they range pretty much from 0 to very close to 0 in my experience...
to see what i am talking about (assuming that the car has not been waxed "properly" for a few months), just wash the car and wax half with a wax that you actually apply (lusso oro or p21s would be my choices). then next time it is washed, have the spray wax sprayed on... rinse the car- dont dry it
check the beading-
i think that you will be able to see what i am talking about, and my guess is that the next time you will be putting wax on the rest of the car.
