Do I really need to use Dawn soap and Clay Bar?
I have already received my Zaino bros. stuff, and plan on doing it this weekend.
I keep reading that the initial wash should be with Dawn soap, and then the car should be clayed.
Is it really the best to use Dawn? Won't that fudge up something, like the clear coat?
Forgive my ignorance...just a concerned owner here...
TIA

you should not wash your car with dawn on a regular basis...
but once in a while to remove all waxes and other stuff is no problem.
it will not harm the clear coat.
in case it doesnt get all of the wax, your clay will.
some more info on dawn is in here:

Do not clay as car as new as yours. The risk far ought weights the reward.
Claying will not damage the paint if you do it right and use the right clay. If you use a fine grade clay like Zaino's or clay magic, the clay will not be an issue.
Clay removes contaminants from the surface. Quite frankly, I have not ever seen a new car with a smooth as silk surface and I would recommend claying. If you run your hand over the surface and it feels rough you should clay. HEre is another test from Properautocare.com :
"Place your hand inside a plastic bag and lightly run your fingertips over your car's paint. The finish should be mirror smooth. If your car's paint has a rough, gritty or pebble-like texture, you're a victim of paint contamination. "
When claying you must use lubricant (normal cash soap is ok as a lube) and knead your clay to keep the contaminants encapsulated. Damage would come from dragging the contaminants you remove back across the paint. However, if you use the proper technique (which is not hard) you'll be glad you did it.
As far as Dawn, A number of autopians are against it and have used Klasse AIO as a base under zaino instead of dawn washing

Just out of curiosity, since you can't see the wax, how do you know it's gone?

You'll be able to feel it gone. When trying to dry the car, it will become much more difficult too since the water won't bead or sheet. Give it a try, you'll see
