dealer teflon coating?
the honda dealer is recommending a teflon coating to
the car as an option. they say i won't have to wax for 5 years.
anybody have experience with this? does it work? would
it help make owning a berlina black less labor-intensive?

absolutely...
imo, total scam (especially in colder climates)- as a matter of fact, if a dealer told me that i wouldnt buy anything from him!
dont get the teflon- and dont let the dealer even wash your car (i promise it will be swirled if not scratched)... take the car dirty and detail it yourself. instead, use a good synthetic (zaino, finish first, etc.) or carnuba finish on your car...
if you need tips on how to do that, post back here and we will help you.
thanks for checking before you got ripped off!

from a site that sells teflon for cars:
"Now nothing last forever or even 5 or 6 years with the harsh rays of the sun here in xxx (name changed). When you buy our Teflon

Well, I did some digging. Started at teflon.com and ended up here:
Simoniz System 5
Interestingly, they have a FAQ that says this:
Q: Can I purchase Teflon

DON'T DO IT! These paint protection packages are HUGE money makers for dealers. That's why they push them so hard. They pay some minimum wage kid a couple hours labour to put on 2 bucks worth of chemical that you must go back every year and pay more to have it done again. Don't be fooled by the term "rejuvenate". They just do it again. You may as well pay someone to Zaino your car once a year if you don't have the time to do it yourself.
My brother-in-law had this Teflon deal put on his BMW. By the end of the first year, his car lost it's luster. He never went back for "rejuvenation". Year after year, the car just got more and more dull. It's no big deal as the car started out being a shiny silver. It's now just grey.
