Default Craftsman 6 inch polisher

I know people here recommend the porter cable, but I have a gift card and this one is $89. Is it any good?

I totally agree. I'm just over analyzing things (as I usually do).

If you are looking for ways to spend your Sears gift card, do you need a set of halogen lights?

krshultz said it the best. matter of fact if i had to do it all over i think i would have skipped the PC and gone straight to the makita. most placed sell PC's for 150 though they can be found between 100-115 if you look around. makita 9227's usually sell between 200-220 though they can be found between 175-185 if you look around. the difference in what i paid for my PC and makita is about 25 bucks.

so rather than buy something that likely won't keep you happy and therefor have you spending more of your money - look into other VERY useful things. here are my ideas:
1. i like the halogen light idea from akimel. they come in handy and are a key to paint correction of any kind.
2. cheap pressure washer. you don't need 3000psi on a car. a nice small 1500-1800 unit is more than enough, easier to move around, and perfect for car use, can be used around the house as well. it looks like sears doesn't have any of the smaller units on their website - but here's the idea: http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/stores...03+90072+502376
3. a nice shop vac. i just replaced my old shop vac with a new one from home depot that was marked down from 99 to 70bucks. countless uses and helps clean up things very well - with your can and around the house. http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_00917761000P
4. cabnets! got something nice to stay organized? i recently bought a 30dollar plastic drawer unit from HD and already love it. i keep my high class microfiber's up top, interior brushes/microfibers in the middle, and pads/backing plates/instruction manuals/wax applicators down bottom. http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_0...00P?vName=Tools
5. why not use the opportunity to stop drying the car with towels? the least you touch the surface, the less damage is possible to do to it. you could make a switch an an electric blower: http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_1...4827000P?mv=rr
6. heres something i waited WAY too long to get up on - sprayers. http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_0...s+%26+Spreaders
come in handy for premixed solutions. can be used with APC's, degreasers, etc etc. i have one for a citrus degreaser, another for meg's wheel brightner, and another for plain water. along those same lines you could get a couple spray bottles http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_09174231000P if in need, http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/stores...500493+10072001

i'm sure i'll think of more later lol. hope this helps and let us know what u get!

I may be one of the few, but I've still got my PC. I still use it all the time. There are places (mirror housings, under-body cladding) that are oddly shaped and made of plastic on a lot of vehicles. I keep the PC around for these very areas.

A month or so, I did an MR2 Spyder, and the engine compartment lid on that car is nothing but a bunch of ventilation slits. No way was I going to run the Makita over that! That's asking for trouble. I'm sure it *can* be done, and I'm sure others do it, but personally, I'd rather not.

FWIW, the PC and 4" pads are also money for headlight correction. That's another place where I think using a rotary is asking for it, big time. PC? No worries!

if i had a sears card right now i'd be going after a decent tool chest and roller cabinet! i just bought a cheapo one from there on sale, probably going to return it and get a better model because like its been said before, spend more the first time to get exactly what you want/need, instead of saving money up front and upgrading later anyways.

i agree and i also still have my PC and i have no plans on getting rid of it, AND i still love it. as stated - headlight correction and tight places. it comes in handy for those reasons, and it's nice to not have to switch backing plates (keep the smaller 3.5 incher on the PC).

i do agree the PC has it's place, and i've seen a lot of pro's hang onto them as well, but still wish i went stra8 to rotary.

love s2ki W&W - TONS of great info, the people are friendly and give great advice, lots of great opinions, and never flame wars here. i've yet to see another detail site i love more. autopia might have more pros with more advanced knowledge/techniques/products/tools/experience/high end cars, but can't beat the friendly atmosphere and the willingness to help others here
