Default Cracked Rear Window (plastic)

I found i got a six in crack in my rear window the other morning. I think it may be the cold and when i dropped the top it must of bent wrong and cracked. Anyway to fix something like this? It would be the equivalen if someone took a scalpel and cut a 4 inch diagonal then 2inch vertical gash in your window. Its near the bottom ending in the black bit which touches the vinyl material. A sticker may cover it, but i'd like a better option

also what does a top normally go for labor wise toreplace?

back window can be replaced but it is a bitch of a job and will cost you. There is a zipper up underneath the fabric that covers it and it can be unzipped and pulled out from the rest of the top somehow.

DO NOT ATTEMPT TO UNZIP THE WINDOW TO SEE IF IT WORKS. It is a one time option designed to allow the window to be replaced. There is a rubber grommet surrounding the zipper that will be destroyed when you do it.

New top on existing hardware will take about 10 hours from what i am told and read here.

This is all just what I have learned from this board

Your window didn't crack from folding "wrong". It cracked because you operated it when it was cold out and from a possible lack of care. Your owner's manual warns about this very thing. The plastic window needs a bit of maintenance to keep it strong a pliable. Neglect will help it to crack in less cold temps.
Yes, the window can be replaced, but it's not a simple deal and it going to hurt (wallet wise).

a little harsh aren't we? I didn't neglect it. The previous owner obviously did. Nobody informed me i wasn't allowed to put the top down during the winter and i don't have a owners manual either. So please don't make it sound like its my fault i've done my best to keep my car the best shape i can since I bought it 6 months ago. It wasn't cold out, maybe around 55c plus i've been driving it for a hour and it had warmed up due to the heater. The problem was that i've cleaned it with soap and water before butnever noticed any cracks.

Does anyone know the best place to get a replacement window? Also the cost abouts and labor involved?

ONLY if you take it that way. Please go back and re-read my reply. You will see the following:

from a possible lack of care
Note the word "possible"? NO blame was placed on anyone. YOU took it as being implied to YOU.

Neglect will help it to crack in less cold temps.
This is a statement of FACT. Sorry, but the truth hurts.

It cracked because you operated it when it was cold out
I CHALLENGE you to find fault in this statement.

Don't get your tail up in a knot just because I put down FACTS. How you apply those facts is up to you.

Now, you say:
i don't have a owners manual either
You wanna make THIS my fault, too?

"decker" ............................ I'll try to remember your name and remember how sensitive you can get and try my best to not reply to any of your problems in future.

i didn't want to turn this into a flame. I did take your comment the wrong way, but i was just stating i didn't do anythign horrifically wrong to cause this. This is why i was "suprised" when i saw it because it didn't look like any of the cracks i've seen other people have when its operated under cold weather. Point aside, the question wasn't why, but what i can do to fix it.

The point is i never challenged your facts Xviper, i don't care how it happened i was asking whats the best way to fix it. PrimoGen posted exactly what i needed, yes it can be fixed, you can replace just the back window, it sucks, its expensive, best of luck. Thats what i needed to know.

And yes, i'm sensitive about people restating the FACTS and rubbing it in someone's face. If someone crashes a car into a tree, they don't need someone saying "hey you know if you drive into a solid vertical object, you'll 'possibly' damage your car". I respect your knowledge Xviper, i'm sure you know more about cars then anyone on this board, i've found your posts extremely useful. But if you do see me post in the future, I'd appreciate it if you would assist in answering the question instead of restating my problem in a way makes me feel like a idiot.

So to restate, thanks everyone for the help, i've had someone post a link to how-to-replace the back window which answers my question and fixes my problem.

I'd love to replace my rear window but I can't imagine putting another plastic one in unless you're technically savy (or patient) enough to put one in yourself. When the time comes I'll opt for a new top with glass.
