Default A clever idea that didn't work...

Gang,

I thought I had a really clever idea not long ago. I like Raggtopp convertible top conditioner a lot. But sometimes, I find that if I'm not cautious, I can get overspray of it elsewhere on the car. Most notably on the window glass and the windshield header.

So, I ventured to the grocery store to pick up some fillable dish sponges. You probably know the type - sponge on one end of a hollow handle. On the back of the handle is a threaded cap into which you pour dish detergent. I figured this would be perfect for application of Raggtopp, or really, any other detailing product where you don't want to waste product by soaking a MF towel in the stuff.

Well, it didn't work. It leaked.

Reason is, near as I can guess, is that they're built for dish soap, which is quite thick. Raggtopp (and Vinylex, and Einszett Cockpit Premium, the list goes on), is thin and liquidy, nearly water like in its consistency. And so it runs right out.

Anyway, I'd mentioned this idea in the past, so I thought I should put up a thread telling folks to save themselves the trouble. This one didn't work.

also, the sponge can come apart...

best way is to soak a rag away from the car (pour it on the rag) then apply.

i give you an a+ for the experiment- to me thats always what detailing has been about. just cause someone else says it doesnt work doesnt mean you shouldnt try!
(when zaino first came out, sal zaino told me that carnauba over his products would never work- now its one of the standards of enthusiasts! a result of experimenting)

I use a cloth wrapped foam applicator that you can get in just about any auto parts store in the detailing section.

I use my cobra MF applicators. tend to work pretty well, and if I feel like they're soaking alot up, I can squeeze it back out...

OR, Just spray it on the roof, and wear latex/whatever type of gloves, and spread it around by hand maybe?

Does raggtop really work that much better? I'm using 303 protectant and it gives a nice black finish for about 4-5 wks, but I never see water bead. Does raggtop cause it to bead?

Yea, raggtop causes it to bead, atleast from my experience, haven't heard otherwise from anyone who uses it.
