Default Cleaning Coilovers

In a few days I will be purchasing a used set of coilovers and expecting them to be a bit dirty.

I really want them to be clean before installing them in my car so what should i do to clean them?

I was thinking of hosing them down and washing it with car wash soap but i was wondering if it would damage anything if i did? Any suggestions?

TIA
