Cleaner for Car Cover
hey,
Has anyone cleaned your car cover in a washer? I have been wanting to, but I don't know which cleaner to use. The instruction that came with the car cover said to use "Liquid Fantastik Cleaner." Does anyone know if this is refering to the "Fantastik: All Purpose Cleaner"?
As for a washer, I have my own washer, but I think its too small, plus it has a center spinner which could tear the cover (whats that called?). Hence, I plan to go to a commercial cleaner to get it cleaned.
Thanks in Advance!

I have yet to buy a cover for the S2000, but I have a cover for the CRX-Si that I have washed about a dozen times.
The cover is very thick and looks like insulated underwear, it is not at all thin, it was the best cover I could find about 10 years ago.
The only time I wash it is when I know the fabric has taken on a lot of dust. I know this when the car has gotten rained on and when I pull the cover off when it is dry there is dirt/dust on the car.
I have always gone to the Laundromat and used one of the HUGE front loading machines. Although the cover is way below the weight limit for this huge machine it gives the cover more room to work around and not get knotted up. And I always wash it twice, once right after the other.
Now to tell you the truth, I have never used soap on it! I have always just washed it without soap, so basically all I have ever done was rinse it.

I sent instructions to another owner who wanted to clean his cover, but had no instructions. He did exactly what the instructions said and was very pleased. Laundromat and Liquid Fantastik (I assume the all purpose cleaner).

you should use a large washing machine with the fantastik that is not the one you get at the store... i know that there are threads on the right one somewhere- you might try searching.
the right fantastik is very concentrated.
having said all of that, i wash my cover every time i wash the car- i use two caps of the real fantastik (about 2 tablespoons), with 2 rinse cylcles, and i do use my home machine (it is not a commercial machine, but it is a heavy duty machine). i know that there is a risk that i will damage the machine... but have been doing this for 2 years now!!

Here's probably one of the only places you can get the Fantastik cleaner.

Go to the laundromat and use one of their huge washers to wash the cover.

I just use regular ole' Tide, and there's little balls, but it's no big deal, I dont' use it that often... it's pretty useless, IMO, just garage it or park it in the shade and use Mother's or Meguiars detailing spray every night of after you drive.

Damn it!
I bought some of the regular Fantastik cleaner from the store thinking that was what the instructions were referring to! Just found my receipt and I will be returning it tommorrow!
BTW great post!
