Clean up a boo-boo?
I scraped the upper right edge of my rear bumper fascia backing out of my narrow driveway Saturday. There is no deformation, but several deep scratches right at the edge of the fendar arc where it meets the body, but fortunately not onto the body itself. They are through the paint in some spots, but I think if I buff it out right, the remaining scratches will be much smaller than it appears now, and the touch-up paint stick will make it almost invisible. I just want to make sure I take the right approach, so I don't make a small problem worse. E.g. I've been warned not to try ti use my 11Krpm angle grinder with any buffing wheel, as it would strip the paint off.
I'm hoping someone will have suggestions on the right equipment & materials to fix this up.
TIA

I have seen some pretty good by hand repair jobs.
This is what I would do.
Buff off all marks you can by hand with rubbing compound.
Fill in deep scratches with touch up paint. Dry for a couple days. Do not be afraid to coat it think.
Then once hard as rock, wetsand to level with stock paint.
Polish out area out by hand until shiny again.
If done correctly, it will work. Try at your own risk.

Here's what I would do . . .
1. Wash your car or QD the area you'll be working on.
2. Clay the area. The clay will remove any transfer from the object you hit.
3. Polish the area. If you don't have a PC or know someone who can lend you one then use Meguiar's Scratch-X by hand. It may take 3-4 applications and some serious elbow grease to get it done though.
4. Fill in the deep scratches with paint.
5. Wait a day or so so that the paint has time to dry and then wax or seal the area.

wash area with DAWN dishoap to remove large dirt
Use rubbing alcohol on a shoptowel to prep area to remove wax, paint transfer, promote paint adhesion
Fill in scratch with paint pen or toothpick to build up paint inside scratch....depending on depth of scratch, may take a few trials
Wait 8-12 hours for paint to SEMI-harden, then wet-sand with CLAYBAR at a 45 degree angle to the scratch to level paint..turn the clay FREQUENTLY so the paint embedded in the clay doesn't mar the rest of the area. Wait another week so the paint left in the scratch can cure fully otherwise the PC may remove it.
Use a yellow pad/menzerna intensive polish/speed 6 on a PC to blend the area, may take up to 5-8 passes of product
You may want to deswirl the whole car at this point, then seal with your favorite synthetic, and layer etc. GoodLuck, It sounds like its on the lower margins of the car so it will be inconspicuous to everyone but yourself
