clay is the first step- it will remove debris thats stuck in the paint, but it wont help with swirls and other imperfections. for those you need to polish. if you think claying is a pia, just wait til you polish!! (if you are claying properly its not a long process- polishing is)

I think it's worth it to clay bar your car once every 6 months. Keeping the paint nice and last longer.
