Ok. Now that my little episode using newspaper to scratch the bejezus out of my windshield is out of my system, suggestions on something I should be using to clean the windshield without scratching it ??
Now I'm gun-shy ... what material can I use that won't scratch the windshield (anymore than it already is )?

I think the most effective glass cleaning material would be the same for paint - a microfiber cloth.
Now that I know your scratches are on the inside and having had a bit of time to think about it, I would suggest you treat the inside with something like "Rain-X". It is supposed to put a coating on the glass surface and may help "hide" those little scratches. (What can you lose?) Just make sure you use that microfiber cloth to do the buffing.

Sounds reasonable. It's definitely a lot less expense that the alternative.
There is also one big plus to the Rain-X idea. If I ever sneeze, with rain-x on the inside of the windshield, I won't have to worry about wiping off the residue.
