If the hood is so far gone that it needs to be re-cleared you should take it to a body shop to have that done. Painting should be left to professionals if you want professional looking results.

Can you give us some more info on how you polished the hood? Did you use a machine or did you do it by hand? What polish did you use? Do you have any pictures of the hood? How long have you neglected the hood?

CF hoods are notorious for their poor clear coats. So, it's quite possible you may need a re-paint.

MikeyC, most CF hoods don't have clear coats.

You'll need a polish for gel coat/epoxy. Meguiars makes some marine polishes for this very thing.

clear usually isnt very good and several do come with out clear coat. (mostly ebay or other shady type of businesses) i agree with taking the hood to a specialist to have it recleared. make sure they wet sand it before clearing though.

Even the "good" ones don't come with clear coat - they come with a clear gel coat, which is what is used on boat hulls. There was a thread floating around here recently from one of my MidA people about polishing his hood out (by hand!) with Meguiar's marine products. Lemme see if I can find it...
