Default Can I Zaino over other wax types?

I bought my car used and would like to know if it's OK to apply Zaino if the old owner used a different wax.

the real answer to your question is "no"
zaino does not bond well to other products...
unless they are really worn down- but i wouldnt take that chance. its easy enough to remove (either a swirl removal or wash with a soap like dawn- but only use dawn for synthetic removal... i have "dawned" my car once in 6 years).

Thanks. Just wanted to confirm it's better to remove the "old" wax. I'll use the Dawn.

Hi Wanabe, just curious about the comments above. I agree that Zaino would unlikely work well applied on top of other products. But if you've only washed with Dawn once, then how are you re-applying your Zaino? Ive read where you also apply a final coat of P21S after Zaino. Seems like you would want to strip the old wax periodically when refreshing your wax.

zaino needs to bond to the car- once its on the car and you have several coats, you can put a carnuba over it.
you can zaino over carnuba- best if the carnuba has been there a little while (not likely much left), but it does seem to be o.k. putting zaino over carnuba as long as the base coats are zaino.

the reason that i have not had to redawn, is that when i polish the car (swirl removal), all zaino is removed.

if your car needs to be polished, you can just do that and not have to dawn. the reason that i dawned my car was that it was the first time it was washed and it did not need to be polished.

Ok, so you always start with Z5 and it will remove old Zaino and whatever old Carnuba is still there. Then I assume you follow with Z2 (plus ZFX).

I had always been starting with Dawn and then applying Z2. My car is not a daily driver, so I only wax 2x a year.

nope, dont use z5- its a swirl cover, not remover.
if i am doing a swirl removal i use several different products... probably the one i go to most often is 3m. and yes, any swirl remover or paint cleaner will remove whatever is on the car as long as you polish the entire car.
then i z2 it (or z1/z2).

dawn is very harsh and not good for the car, especially plastic and rubber... thats why you dont want to use it very often.
