Default C.F. hood clearcoat peeling

I'm not really sure where to post this question. But, I figured somewhere in the detail world someone here must have seen this before. Here's the problem...

My girlfriend purchased a 2004 Honda Accord that had an aftermarket carbon fiber hood installed. I can't find a manufacturer name on it (I'm assuming it's probably an Ebay cheapie.) When she purchased it last summer, the hood seemed to have a nice shine. Unfortunately, as time went on, we started to notice several spots where the clear coat was peeling. I'm thinking the dealer must have used some type of wax or sealer to make the peeling less visible when she purchased it. Lately, she has become so bothered by it that she has taken it to several body shops asking for a respray. Unfortunately, none of the shops near us wants to touch it.

Is this situation so drastic that we need to replace the hood (as the body shops suggest)? Can it be fixed? Or, is there some type of sealer that may help hide what is happening?

no sealer will help.

if its really clear peel, a sanding and re-clear isnt that big of deal... wonder why the body shops dont want to do it. sounds like they think its more than a clear coat problem

got several pics??

I'll get some pics up by the weekend.

I think the reason why the body shops are reluctant to touch it is because it isn't a "true" carbon fiber hood. Again, I think it's a cheaper Ebay type version. They did suggested wet sanding (as you guys mentioned) then painting it black. Unfortunately, that is not the look she is interested in.

go to a diff body shop. apparently they know nothing about carbon fiber.

all they have to do is sand it and re clear. if its an ebay hood or what you say "true" carbon, they are made the same, i dont know any hoods that are made prepreg. if they can sand and spray black they can sand and spray clear.
