Bumper Repair
I recently trashed my front chin spoiler after running over a tractor trailer tread at about 60 mph. I was able to unbolt and remove the spoiler but it left a 2 inch tear on the underside of the bumper cover.
I took it to the local bodyshop man and he said he could repair the bumper for about $500. The chin spoiler is going to be an additional $500.
My question: Is there a repair kit available for the bumper? Since the tear is mostly on the bottom side a neat job is not required. Any ideas?

A new bumper will generally run about 220-240 but the kicker is the shipping charges. It's not heavy but bulky. I manage to buy a rear bumper for about 30 dollars shipping. So figure about 250-280 for a unpainted bumper. Painting cost me another 250.

You might want to get another quote. I had my wife's Lexus bumper repaired by a local shop here in Vermont for $350. They had to fill and paint some deep scratches. I was pretty skeptical but it came out perfect. They even buffed out one door that had some light scratches and didn't charge for it.
I have damage on the rear bumper of my S2000, also. It's very minor, but they would need to heat it, filll and repaint. I had planned on buying the unpainted bumper and have it painted, but the dealer (Weseloh in San Juan Capistrano), pulled a price switch on me. They quoted me about $220 and when I went to pick it up, they said it was $270. I wasn't happy and didn't buy it. Based on the results on our Lexus, I'm going to have it repaired.

I just ordered an Amuse "style" chin spoiler for less than $300, painted and w/ all hardware. This was a now-closed GB, but shows that you can do way better than what the quote was for the OEM chin spoiler. As to entire bumpers, there a number of after-market bumpers (some good looking and some cheesy) that can be had for $800 or less unpainted.
