Description from link two posts above yours:

SONAX Full Effect Wheel Cleaner is a highly effective, acid-free and pH balanced rim and wheel cleaner that is safe for all wheels, including aluminum and alloys. This formulation is also effective and safe for use on painted wheels and will not deteriorate clear coats.

The sonax did not get the stains off as I had hoped. I will try again this week, but it didn't even make a difference.

let it soak, needs to turn purple. If it doesn't work ps215 is another great product or you may have to actually polish the wheel with a small buffer to get it clean again

make sure you use Sonax only on cool surfaces and do not let it dry completely. it should turn purple and brake dust will bleed off.

I wonder if he's taking about the inside part of the OEM wheel?

That part does get etched up pretty bad over time. No cleaner is going to fix that.
