BirdShit etched into clearcoat?
I just washed my BMW 330i and a couple of spots where there was birdshit are all dulled. I tried to claybar it off, then I used a bit of a cleaner wax but it still looks terrible. This sedan was buffed out in the spring using Menzerna products and had multiple coats of Menzerna FMJ before I topped it off with a carnuba wax. My S2000 has never had an issue with birdshit before. It simply washes off and the gloss is uneffected. I'm going to have to pull out my P/C and buff out the spots that are affected. I'm a little puzzled as to why this supershit has etched my paint, any guesses.

yes- it might be etched... in addition to possibly being acidic, it can also contain sand- gulls especially are known to eat sand.
so be very careful.
in addition to the detail spray and mfs, you need a bit of technique- dab it first to see whether you have sand or not.
my guess is that a polish -by machine- will help your situation.
acid + time equals etch.

I just thought it was curious that I've had birdshit for a few days on my S2000 then washed it off and had no lingering effects. It simply came clean with no etching. On the BMW it looks terrible and will most definately have to be buffed out.

The birds diet has an effect to the damage it can cause.
I have tried to get my wife's car fixed with a heavy duty polish and went over it several times with an orbital and I can't get it out. Next step is to get a non-orbital and get deep into the paint to pull it out.

My hood is etched from bird shit. The bird shit on the car, and the car sat in the sun for two days, when I found it, I immediately removed it, using detail spray, and I didn't notice the etching until recently, and noticed how HORRIBLE it looked.
I ended up wet sanding it, and polished it, and it was still there, so I taped the area up (BIG MISTAKE), and then proceeded to wetsand the area, and then polish... It looked good, until I removed the tape, and noticed the sanding had left the area with a sanded border around it......
Ended up resanding the entire area, repolishing, but you can still notice it, but only slightly.
