went to my local auto supply store and all I could find was Turtle wax bug and tar remover. Used it as directed and the tar softened up like butter and wiped off so easily, worked great. I had some major tar stripes down the side of the car and it came off real easy.

Seriously don't knock this before you try it for yourself.
Old school detailer showed me this, dab a small amount of peanut butter (smooth not crunchy unless you want scratches) over the road tar with enough to cover it.
Let it sit for a couple minutes then lightly rub it into the tar and it will all come off in one shot.
Something in the enzymes of the peanut butter that does the trick. Try it
