Default Best Way to Remove Tar from Body Panels...

I recently got some tar sprayed along the side quarter panels behind the front wheels. There has been some road construction in my area recently and it likely picked up from the new road asphalt. It is mostly thin long lines of it sprayed out behind the front wheel wells. I want to detail my car soon with a good polish and wax , I'll need to remove the tar first. Any advice on products to use to remove the tar ? . I'd appreciate any recommendation, thanks for reading.

I used Lifter 1 bug and tar remover on some nasty tree sap recently.

It worked better than I expected.

Picked it up at PepBoys.

Tarminator with a rigid porous sponge that I got from my detail supplier's website. Easy to use and very effective.

thanks for the replies on this, some of those products should be easy to find over the counter for me. That's great, thanks again.

I keep one really nasty clay bar for these kinds of jobs and the clay pulls it off no problem. Just max sure you waxed the area before you go to clay as you don't want to scratch anything around/underneath the tar.

I usually use some sort of bug/tar remover and then go over the area again with a clay bar. Then polish and wax as needed.

Im going to clay the car before I polish and wax so the claybar tip should work well, thanks for tip on this.

Diesel fuel clean tar pretty good but you need to wash and wax after.
