The fine metal particles are the sintered fragments that have adhered under heating to the barrel of the wheel. Use a quality wheel cleaner and wheel brush to clean your wheels, I prefer to remove the wheels myself to completely clean the wheels.

In my experience Sonax did the best job of removing the sintered particles from the interior areas of wheels, others may disagree or have other recommendations.
