hahahaha! im so sorry for laughing but im just trying to imagine you going crazy finding out you have gum in your carpet..
its only carpet. use ice and freeze the gum and go from there. it should be easier to pull off. i know thats what i did when i had gum in my hair when i was younger. i wouldnt mind if i had to cut some carpet..thats me though.

Did you try Google for some self-help? First result was this:

I know this is a really old thread....but I couldn't stop laughing when I read it and I figured I would post just in case this ever happens to anyone else....
Sorry I didn't see this sooner. I only came across it because I'm looking for other stuff concerning the carpet.
Gum is very easy to remove from carpeting or fabric.
1 - Put baby oil on it. Leave the baby oil on it for a few minutes, maybe longer. It will lift the gum off the carpet.
2 - To remove the baby oil stain, just pour some talc (baby powder) over the entire region that got affected by the baby oil and the talc will soak up all the oil. Just vacuum it out after a while.
No stains left.

Peanut butter will also dissolve gum... but then you have to clean the peanut butter out of your carpet....
Works better on getting gum and tree sap out of hair... just shampoo the peanut butter out .... unless you are alergic to penuts... them use something else...
