yea, the suzuka hides everything better than the atomic blue, it almost makes the atomic blue look really dark. since they are hard to pick out swirls though, if the shop lamps arent enough, should i still invest in a dorcy or fenix? i actually like the sounds of the dorcy since its rechargeable, any reviews on this item?

You can polish clear bra. You just can't go as aggressive as you can on paint. SIP+Orange is as aggressive as I'd go.

Just be careful of heat build up. But other than that.. happy polishing!

Oh, I also responded to your DB thread (d00t) but anyways.. I have the dorcy 225 lumen light and it was $30 at sears. It works great.. only thing I use on light metallics such as silver. Like the M6 in my garage. Not even my camera flash will pick up defects.. but the LED will

ok, just got my 1000W halogens, and tried to shine them on the civic which was washed and clayed.

i can't seem to find anything? but i know there are light swirls becuase i have seen them in sunlight, but why can't i see anything in the halogens? whats everyones technique when it comes to shining halogens at the paint to expose swirls/defects? I was able to pull out some "hazing" on the door/hood, but still am unable to see any kind of swirling on both the civic and the s2000 need help here!

metallics bro....
it's going to be tough to see anything in that atomic blue, and suzuka shouldn't be much easier. u can also try a trick like turning off all the lights but the shop lamps so that the flakes don't catch light from all other angles. regardless, i'm willing to bet the swirls will still be decently faint and still tough to see. it's just all part of that blessing and curse of paints schemes/colors that hide defects.
despite these troubles, you should be able to see an improvement after polishing, as light won't "scatter" from paint defects before hitting the flakes like they do now. the result will be a crisp, unusually bright paint with zillions of flakes leading way to a color explosion
of course... make sure u finish don properly so u aren't left with micro-marring that will take away from this effect

okay, so i was able to do half a door and the full hood (with some 3m on it), and heres what i tried first, i tried using my least aggressive combo i had

-blue sonus SFX pad, Megs #80 (didn't seem to touch much of the defects at all)

-White sonus SFX + Megs #80, i did 2 passes of this combo on all the areas (stayed with the blue pad and 80 on the 3m areas) and this has worked well for me so far. the hood looks pretty good, i've been able to find the flash point rather easily, and WOW the flex does work fast!

I was able to figure out how to use the halogens to see the defects, like muttgrunt said, i need to cut down as much outside light as possible and have the halogens be my only light source. when doing this, i was able to see a healthy amount of scratches/spiderwebbing (not so much swirls) on both cars, the suzuka S2k is actually quite cooperative with this method.

Im actually quite pleased with the results that Megs #80 is giving so far, seeing as how its a rather tame polish. It was a bit tough to get good 50/50 pics, or even any pics at all of the defects, but im sure you guys can take my word for it on how the hood looks so far. I should get a good 4-5 hours more time to work on it again tomorrow, hopefully i can finish a little more! stay tuned everyone!

okay, I was able to finish half the car, for most of this portion I was using a yellow sonus pad (orange lc equivalent), and megs 83, the white+80 didn't seem to have the best effect for defect removal.

Does anyone think that this might be too harsh for mild rids/webbing? I was planning on going yellow+83 followed by white+80 to be lsp ready?

Some of the rids still remained, seems like the products I have just aren't aggresive enough for those, but there definately is an improvement already!
