I love this. AOL got hacked and now people can expect their AOL accounts to be used as spam launchsites. So warn you friends about your AOL account. People that have not used their AOL account for years may start hearing from friends who didn't know they were in need of money.

What amazes me the most about this is that people still use AOL!

It's just an e-mail account. Why not use it?

Because most people don't still depend on dial-up, which, to me, is where AOL still is. I cancelled my AOL account in 1998 (the last century, almost 16 years ago)

They are not my ISP, just an e-mail account like gmail, etc. I don't see any real difference. But now that they have been hacked that could change.

My Mom (92) still uses AOL. It was what she used when we first got her on line, yes, with dial up. She has a DSL connection now, but is comfortable navigating with AOL. A couple family members still use the email addresses, not sure if anyone is surfing with it. I have to do a lot of if Mom want's AOL help.

I'll be watching for from her account.

Edit: Oh an now Internet Explorer browser has issues.....nothing is safe on the internet, nothing!

I use it as the e-mail address that one gives when you sign up for something on-line. I limit the junk mail to that one account.

For end users of the service, the simplest solution to the latest AOL hack is to change the password on any AOL accounts -- regardless of whether you believe the account has been compromised or not -- and follow AOL's guidelines which include setting a new Account Security Question. The suggested steps (and how to see if your account has already been compromised) can be found here:

AOL email is just another email service provider (with the option of using their branded browser and email software). I regard them about the same as Yahoo email.
