Default "Your house qualifies for an energy upgrade," spam.

What is it with this SPAM? I sometimes get 10 calls a day. And I have a spam blocker. But, the callers just change phone numbers and IDs on the fly.

Several times, all lines (land line and cell) ring at the same time. With the same stupid recording. The one that ends with, "press 9" to opt-out (which I never press). I wonder if anyone really falls for this heavy-handed tactic?

Digital technology at its finest!

I set my iPhone so that if a caller is not in my contact list, it goes directly to voice mail. I get a vibration to notify me that I have a message. If it's spam, I block the number.

Of course, it doesn't block the calls, but I don't have to listen to the ridiculous spiel - I don't even listen to the VM, just read it and block from there...

I do the exact same thing. If it is important I will get right back to the caller.

Same here. Hate these scam bags.

Even erasing the messages is annoying. I sometimes do it 6 times in one day.

What's really bad is when you are waiting for an important call. THEY know! That's when I get back-to-back-to-back spam calls.

In our region everyone gets a relentless number of calls from scammers selling Duct Cleaning services. We get a crazy number of calls from these types of callers, they all have Pakistani types of accents. I really don't think they are actual duct cleaners, but it is some kind of scam. My wife loves to tell them that there is a pond behind us with lots of dirty ducks , so we have lots of ducks that need cleaning. lol

Today I got an email from a guy I know, but somebody hacked his address book. It was an old scam, he asked me to buy a gift card for a sick friend, while he’s out of town. He said he tried to buy one on line but he didn’t have any luck. I emailed back and asked why he couldn’t get it on line “Are you a f’ing idiot”? Never heard back. Guess we aren’t friends anymore.

Went to Mass last week and at the end the priest, who is also the pastor, made his way out the center aisle. We made eye contact and subtly greeted each other. We are on good terms and familiar with each other. About a half an hour later, I get a text, signed by him, with a request for a favor. He called me by my first name. We have never called each other so I did not have his contact in my mobile but it would not be unusual for him to request something from me. I am on the security team as well. I texted back and asked how I could help. He responded about how he was tied up and wanted to get some cancer stricken parishioner in the hospital some Apple gift cards!!! Whoa there Nessie! I called the front office and told them what happened. I gave them the contact number and asked if it was Father's number. Nope. He was there and he confirmed he did not contact me. I made sure they were aware of the scam and other parishioners might be tricked into getting these gift cards. They put out the word.

Somehow this sob knew my name, phone number, from some parish data base and then pretending to be the pastor, tried to scam me and most likely other folks. For charity's sake, I will leave out the text I sent back with a succinct message.

That happened to me same deal, except it wasn't a priest, a friend of mine had gotten hacked. I called him right away to make sure he was O.K. and he told me he had been hacked. These people are playing on other people's emotions.
I have been getting spam calls from hong kong on my i-phone lately. I still have a landline with an answering machine that I don't answer anymore because of the spam calls. Everyone who calls me on it knows to leave a message. Be nice if I could answer my own phone.

I love it, when the guy on the line says in a heavy Indian accent, "Hellooo, my name is Bob Goldsmith!" Or something like that.
