If I had the money Clapton has, sure without any regret.

Hell if I nail mega millions this week, I might order one. assuming I actually break down and Buy a ticket.

Matt, ask yourself, what percentage of your net worth did the S2000 represent when you bought it?
on that basis, you may have paid more than Clapton.

I appreciate your relating this cost to relative wealth versus the expense. Having grown up in Queens, NYC I remember my "blue collar" working class Father's reaction to a news report back in the late 60's (perhaps 68 or 69) about a person in the Hampton's on Long Island buying the house next door for $250,000 and having it demolished because his lot was not large enough to build a swimming pool on it. I remember asking him if he could buy the house next door for one dollar to do the same would he? So I understand relativity.

With that stated: I also understand the law of diminishing returns. One of the reasons that I bought the S was that it's purchase price compared to a Porsche Boxster or a BMW Z3 back in 2003 made the S a great value for the dollars spent. For example the Boxster was over $20K more and was only 1/10th of a second faster zero to sixty MPH or through a high speed slalom. At the time, I could have bought any of the three if I had really wanted too. But, being prudent, I went for the most bang for the buck. As I have no idea of Eric Clapton's net worth I cannot answer your question. But, I feel pretty comfortable in stating that even though I know that Mr. Clapton often attends Formula One races and is a fan, I am fairly certain that he is not going to be able to enjoy even a fraction of that car's potential on the streets of NYC where he lives.

"the Sultan of Brunei commissioned sedan and wagon versions of the Ferrari 456"

And we wonder why that part of the world is so screwed up.....

Use the $$$ for something worthwhile, and not on yourself!

Clapton is worth around 125 million pounds..... although differing google results seem to flip dollars and pounds.

I remember being at a Concours a couple of years back and they had a Ferrari GTO that was valued at eleven million dollars. I'm a total Ferrari lover/nut but I remember looking at the car and thinking how can you justify that much for a car.

He earned his money. He can spend it any way he pleases. GO Eric Go.

Regarding spending the big bucks, and this applies to anyone not just Eric Clapton
You earned it. Spend your money anyway you want to. Don't let people tell you what to do with it. It's yours. Enjoy the fruits of you labor. Have fun!!! You have no other obligations.

If I had it, I would indeed spend it, in fact I would spend way more than that little 4.75 mil, I would be in the 11 to 13 mil range, because the car Robb saw, is the model I lust for, a '62 to '64 Ferrari 250GTO

Bit of history for you back in the 60's after racing teams were down with their gto's they were just considered old worn out racing cars and nobody wanted them. There were a few cases of raceteams donating their gto's to high school auto shops!
