I should have added, I like being around people - but only if they are people that I actually like and have something in common with. Being with people that I don't meld with drives me nuts.... and I can't wait to escape.

Dave, even though I was also an only child, reading your posts on this thread make me think that we were separated at birth! It's as if your posts are mine!

 

I certainly agree that being with people with whom I have nothing in common or do not meld with makes me insane. I head for the nearest exit. I also feel DRAINED.

My divorce was some 17-years ago, I have never been happier
I love my independence, it's one of the most important aspects of my life
For me the word independence is how I see my life, not loneliness or even solitude, as neither apply
It's true those two words have similar characteristics to independence, but for me, I go right back to the word of independence when I look at my life
I have friends in person, and friends on-line, I'm very close to Mom and some of the rest of the family
But, at the end of the day, it's just me and my cats, and I love it
