Why did you buy your S2000?

All good reasons above and I won't repeat them all. I was tired of my Bugeye Sprite which, through no fault of its own, was ready for a major drive-line overhaul to make it what I wanted it to be. I decided it was better to leave it as is and sell it to someone who liked it that way. (Another S2000 owner believe it or not!)
The only reason I cared about my next car being a Honda was the technology. Honda's years in motorsports, from F1 to motocross really shows in the performance department. My car only gets about 5,000 miles per year of driving so I wasn't really worried about my next sports car falling apart on me.
I also wanted a car that I could autocross competatively. This narrowed things down a bit. In the end, it was either a used C5 vette, the S2000 or the Miata. I couldn't find the Miata I wanted. The Vette reminded me of my old Z28, and convertibles are expensive and less competative in the autocrosses. The S2000s were plentiful and when I found my 'Lil Suzuka for only 28K brand new it was a done deal.

I've lusted after this car since the concept was first shown and for the last 4 years I've been putting it off for one reason or another, either Kids, bussiness committments, new home , or whatever seemed to take priority.
All this changed the day my friend was killed by a guy going left of center to pass 2 Tractor-trailors one night on a two lane highway.
Life is too short...time for Daddy to have some fun

I have always liked sports and muscle cars and have owned a number of them since the 60's. I wanted to get a sports car that looked great, had power with good handling, was a convertable and got good gas mileage. Hence, the S2k! I almost bought a Corvette, but liked the S2k better. The Corvette is a high maintainance car that is usually in the shop for one thing or another. I wanted something that needed less maintainance and was more dependable. Also, I wanted to feel the air going thru my hair while I still had some. -Ken

Ditto most of the above, except that don't track it. I wanted a high-powered, 2-seat roadster; the Germans are over-priced and no longer as reliable as before, while the Vette is too big. New to Japanese cars, Honda's bullet-proof reputation won me over. I don't think I'd want to risk owning a 9000rpm motor designed anywhere else. And, not to over-look the styling: the S2000's clean & uncluttered lines are timeless. Best thing of all-- it fits me like a glove and is a ball to drive!

I had my sights set on a Miata initially. Small, sporty, inexpensive, good fuel economy, golf clubs fit in the trunk, & optional hardtop.
The guys at Honda Research & Anna Engine Plant (I call on them) tried to talk me into an S2000. Valid arguments and I loved the car, but knew that if I came home with one, I'd catch cr@p from my wife.
My Stepson comes home one day, telling wife & I that the parents of one of his buddies just bought an S2000, and he started raving about what a great car it is. He asks, "Why don't you buy an S2000?. Then my wife asks, "Yeah, why don't you buy an S2000?
I'm sure that many vintage owners can relate with this scenario. Familiarity breeds contempt. If I had come home saying I wanted an S2000, my wife would have shot it down. But when her 20-year old know-it-all son says it's a great car, then it's a great car. Of course, my immediate response to my wife was, "Well, if you want me to get an S2000, then OK".

I bought my S2000 because I had to replace my '90 CRX-Si. I wanted rear wheel drive, and I wanted a real sports car. Had the S2000 not come out it would have been a used BMW M Roadster. And the reason I had to replace the CRX-Si was because after about 9 years of this, I decided it deserved to be retired.

I bought my S2000 because:
1.) It's a Honda (and I come from a long line of Honda lovers)
2.) It's a convertible (something I knew I would always use living in So Fla)
3.) It's totally impractical (if I can't have it now, it won't be for another 15 years!)
4.) What other car out there can you find that is comparable to Porsches and other high-end cars, without the high-end price tag?!
5.) It's all about having FUN!

I,ve always wanted a sportscar; that means a two-seat roadster if you're my age. I finally reached a point in life where I could scratch that itch. I actually looked for an old XK-E or 356, but there was too much risk of me making a *big* mistake. I test drove the S2000, and went to work the next day saying, "It's rude. It's crude. I want it bad!" However, in the spring of 2001, MSRP was considered a good deal around here, so I waited and bought a used '00 in November of '01.
Almost two years and 20k miles later, I'm still smiling every time it engages the other cam lobes. Actually, to me the best thing about the car is its dual personality: in ordinary driving, shift at 5500 or so and you can drive the car without breaking the law. When it's appropriate, use the rest of the powerband and break into a big xxxx-eating grin.
