Default Why did you buy your S2000?

I bought mine because (not necessarily in order of importance):

1) I really miss the MGB I had in the 70s. I miss the TD that I sold 20 years ago, and I miss owning a sports car.

2) I'm never going to be any younger than I am now, and I didn't want to wait any longer.

3) Its a Honda, and finally I could have a fun to own, fun to drive little two seat sports car that would be relatively trouble free. I don't have the time or patience for Smiths gauges or Lucas electrics anymore.

4) After 20 years of driving Accords and a 4Runner I still believe that there is no substitute for top down, open air driving. There is no substite for driving a quick, manual transmission, two seat sports car.

5) It was time.

How about you?

The motorcycle bug was biting me but being "vintage" I thought I oughta know better. So I found the closest thing that wouldn't tip over. I also loved the way I fit into the cockpit when I test drove one. It's a no nonsense, no frills car, just what I like.

I decided on an S2000 for a most unlikely reason: the doors.
For 10 years, I'd driven a Saturn SC and after 9/11/2001 decided life was too short not to drive something truly wonderful. Self-serving, maybe, but didn't that day affect us all in many strange ways?
Anyway -- late in '01 I attended the DC Auto Show and sat in a Miata. Loved the feel of the car, but the doors were light and closed with a tinny sound -- one of the things I liked least about the Saturn.
The S2000 on the other hand seemed built like a bank vault. I wasn't thinking about unsprung weight; all I knew was, those doors sounded and felt great!
A test drive a few weeks later sealed the deal, and after 19 months this car continues to surprise and entertain me.

I bought my S2000 because:

(1) It was a Honda. I had already bought 4 new cars and 2 new motorcycles by Honda, and I would not have considered it if it wasn't a Honda.

(2) It was small, fast, sexy looking and had a manual trans. My van is none of those and I wanted some fun. I got what I wanted!

I was a big Honda fan since before I could legally own one.

While installing car audio and security products in High School I loved how all of the pieces would always fit back together on Hondas. This was untrue for the Big 3 American companies which seemed to use self tapping sheet metal screws wherever possible that you had to fish for with an ice pick during reassembly.

So my 1st car was a 86 Accord 4 door that was infinitely reliable and cozy. :Flashback:I had a nice Pioneer in a Bensi Box in that car

Then I was impressed with a friends first Gen RX-7 and how it revved right beyond red line in every gear all day with out any problems. So I bought one and grew into a real sports car with RWD for a change .

Naturally I wanted a 93 RX-7 TT when it came out but couldnt afford one. So after waiting for the Next RX-7 on US shores which turned out to be the RX-8. I gave up.
I was fond of the S2000 because of my affection for Hondas from my early days of driving and eventually got one almost by accident.

I brought another 86 Accord that I purchased to the dealer for a seat belt recall, and while browsing discovered that I could have an S2000 since the price gouging of the initial release was over. I finally had a Tight, high revver, and convertible with the rigidity of an x-frame to boot. ! WHEW !
