Well I got home last night to a heated house with lights, that was a big deal, and I'm happy for it.

My property made out fine, I lost a few limbs 2" in diameter from my Sugar Maple out front, but that tree has issues anyways. My huge Crimson King Maple in the front stood as a majestic rebellion to the ice, I'm so happy I spent the money last year and had a pro tree guy come in and prune it out.

My sister and her family live about 1-mile south of me, they lost 2 huge trees in their front yard. Had they lost one I could see myself weilding the chain saw for several Saturdays in a row, but with 2 of them, I just don't see how my brother-in-law and I could handle it, it could be 50 trips to the dump in the Titan.

Last night I got what I'll call 2" of snow and we are supposed to get more, but it is good and cold here, in the teens, so the snow is light and fluffy and even if we get several more inches I'm not too concerned. What will be a problem though is if it gets windy.

I'm glad to hear most everybody is avoiding this winter blitz.

Levi, glad to hear you are ok, the weather map was showing all things east and north of Watertown as potentially being hit hard. Stay warm.

Oh man, I remember both the ice storms really well. In fact the latter one that hit mostly north and into Canada was the one that made me drive all the way up to the Alexandria Bay/Black Lake area, when they were telling everybody to stay off the roads. I must have driven over 50 power lines that day making it up to my parent's 2nd house.

I can feel the cold front moving in now and what a difference a day makes.

 

I thought this was supposed to be about over, but way down here in Austin there's a couple millimeters of ice on everything this morning. Highly unusual -- Dallas gets ice storms regularly, but they don't make it down here (200 miles south) a lot of the time; this time, I'm told Dallas got hit much less hard.

Cedar waxwings have congregated in the juniper outside my window. Only if you've seen them in person can you appreciate them. Very much a winter bird, down in these parts. If Texas gets winter (my Michigan roots still quail at the thought), then this is it.
