Where do you think gas prices will finally end up?
I got gas today and the price of a gallon of regular gas was 2.03/9. I was astounded. That is higher than I thought it would go. At this same station premium was 2.14/9. Yesterday, I passed by the Sunoco station where I usually fill my S with gas. Sunoco 94 was $2.19/9 a gallon. Again, I was amazed. I didn't think the price would go this high. Now, I don't think the end is in sight. I've heard, on the radio, that gas prices are expected to continue to rise until the end of summer.
I think the price is high now, and will go up a little more, settle back and stablize for a while. I imagine were going to be paying about $2.00 to $2.25 per gallon over the long run.

It was $0.95 a litre up here today....approx. 3.8 litres to the gallon = $2.62 US/gallon.... It will be over a dollar here by the end of the week is my bet because it's a long weekend....

I've heard the "experts" quote $3/gallon many times. I figure that gives the industry carte blanche to take us there and I believe they will. The Chevron station I passed today was $2.40 for regular here in Washington state.
Edit: I couldn't believe the price I quoted above so to make sure I found this list. $2.40 for regular is among the higher prices. However none of the low priced ones are near the Seattle area.

since gas pricing is so regional, I think for ease of discussion, the question should be,
"As a percentage basis, how much higher do you think gas prices will be than they are today?"
I'm not sure how much higher prices are going to get, or if they're going to start easing, but if they do ease, I don't think it'll happen quickly. maybe +/- 10% in the next few months. I fully expect prices to be at this level for quite some time, much to the chagrin of SUV owners.

Good point, B. The gas prices are differ from region to region. Here in CA (as you know), premium is at $2.53...and that's at the cheap gas station!
I think (or is that just hope?) that the price won't go up any much higher than that.

I have no idea. I read that the reason they are so high is that in Jan the predictions were for gas consumption to drop, so the OPEC nations cut back production. Instead it skyrocketed from $26 a barrel to $41. Personally, I think it's all artificial inflation - just like diamonds. When I bought gas up the street from me the other day, it was $2.35!

I think it will keep increasing. The real question is will it surpass the rate of inflation on a regular basis? Rick posted a thread a while back to show that in today's dollars, gas is cheaper than it was 10, 20 or 30 years ago. I predict you will see that trend change. I guess I'm saying that there is a long and short term answer. Maybe it will level off short term, but that will only be temporary.
