I know many folks here really love their dogs and I understand their affection for their pets. They are truly family members. My sister is a dog person, actually three of my sisters have dogs. Rick really likes dogs. I don't dislike them, just not interested in having one as a pet. If we were not working or had a big yard for a dog to roam in, maybe we'd have one. However, neither of us is interested in getting out of bed to walk or dog, or walking a dog in the rain, cold and/or snow. We also don't want to scoop poop in the yard, or clean up after a dog when walking it.
As long as those things are required if you own a dog, I don't think we'll have one.

Rain or shine, Miss BB has to go outside to take care of her business. As to the scooping, Jim is very good about scooping if she goes on the lawn. However, Miss BB is such a good little dog that she normally goes way over against the property line underneath the shrubs in the long needle pine mulch. She's only about 9 lbs and does very small little poos so its hard to find it in the mulch and she goes in different areas so we don't end up with a smelly mess. If we had a large dog, we'd need to scoop wherever it went, but we have a really nice long handled mechanical scooper. It makes the job much easier. I prefer large dogs over small ones as a rule, but they are a bit harder to care for and do not generally have the long life span the smaller dogs usually have. My vet thinks with proper care, BB could make it to 15 or 16 years old.
