Picked up our new puppy on Saturday. She is an 8 week old Labradoodle. We named her Callie

Adorable. Hope Callie is easy to train. Beautiful color.

Cute pup!

Busy week this week with "stuff". Cat goes the vet for her check up. I hope to get Mom's computer this week, so I need to set that up for her, camera/photography class on Thursday and I'm hoping to finalize the couch purchase as well. All this is done after work, so I'll be hoping to sleep in come Saturday.

Not much on schedule as far as wekend activities. I'm off Saturday from grandkid duty, so I will find something to do. Dinner with friends on Saturday evening.

How will you potty train her?

I keep thinking about getting a puppy but keep talking myself out of it as fast as I think about it.
My wife is "retiered" so it is easy for her to take the new puppy out about every 2 hrs. Callie has taken to going out without any real prompting. One accident in two days.
We also crate the dogs until they are fully trained. Most dogs will not go potty where they sleep. This one is amazing. She has selpt through the night and has done nothing in her crate. Almost scary

If you do not want to potty train you should look at one of the rescue groups. Our last Lab was a rescue dog. He was 10 months old and fully trained when he got to his forever home. Just a thought.

I rode 50 miles on my bike yesterday and swam 1000 yards. Today I ran 7 miles and then rode 20 miles.
Did that make you happy?

I potty trained Kyras, Whiskey, Vector and Rogue, all German Shepherds, and all with a crate. Also took them all to Obedience school.

It's not the potty training that makes me not get one. It's mostly that I take off for long weekends (or longer) and I have no one to take care of them. Right now I have two cats and they manage for three days, alone. Can't do that with a dog. My next door neighbor will come check on my cats but a dog requires more. We have a local German Shepherd Rescue and I give them donations every year.

Dogs are a lot of work. You have to have the time to devote to them. I heard my granddaughter bugging her Mom to get a dog yesterday. So far her Mom is sticking to her guns, saying no. Good. I don't mind watching kids, and I'll even stop by to feed their cats if they take off, but I'm not interested in watching a granddog.

I cannot bear life without a dog. BB is one of the best little pets I've ever had and I cannot imagine my grief if something should happen to her. So far she's doing okay and seems far younger than her 10 years. Jim and I both miss her terribly even when she goes to the groomer. She is happy as long as she can be wherever we are and she dutifully follows one of us around wherever we go. However, at night when she decides its time to get some rest she goes into our closet and rests up. We leave the doors slightly open for her since she seems to love it so much. I think its because the closet is lined with cedar and animals love that woodsy smell. Whenever we travel we take her to a fru-fru doggy hotel that she likes. She loves the place and seems quite happy when she arrives there. They also do grooming and she seems not to mind being left there. She just runs off into the groomer's arms and leaves us behind.
