Thanks, Deb. It is indeed painful. At least the bleeding's stopped! Sleeping tonight should be an adventure, trying to avoid touching or bumping my little finger, which only intensifies the pain.

^Gene, I can't imagine how you could rip off a finger nail. Please explain.

I got the Crosstour washed today and waxed all but the 4 side-doors, before quitting in the dark. It'll be easy to finish, tomorrow.

^Patty, it's kind of difficult to explain unless you were there or I could show pictures. I was loading one of the larger (heavy, like 50 pounds) logs onto the log splitter, and while dropping it onto the splitter, somehow caught my left pinkie (like in a pinch) between the log and the splitting ram. It tore the nail loose from the base of the nail, even though I was wearing work gloves. Trust me, it hurt like hell as well as bled profusely, and the nail is still just hanging on by a thread. Advil (and gin ) seem to keep the pain down to a reasonable level, but I'll survive.

I considered going to the ER, but figured there was nothing they could really do, besides prescribing pain meds.

Sounds like torture, Gene. I imagine the nail will fall off if you don't rip it off the rest of the way. Photo?

I put my hand in the door jamb of my bedroom french doors and then pulled the door closed on it, back in October, or so. It cut my left middle finger above the nail bed and then as it grew out the nail was unattached. I had to keep trimming the loose nail off because it got caught on everything. It's not grown out all the way yet but at least the broken part is gone now. At the time, I was afraid to look because I thought for sure I had cut the end of my finger off. I was surprised it was only cut and didn't even bleed much, although it hurt. Not too much, though. Advil worked without booze, and I went back to bed.

So sorry, Gene. Hope it heals well. I'm sure it throbs and hurts terribly.

reminds of a temporary stint doing roofing.
The hammer hit my thumb nail instead of the roofing nail.
hurt like hell the first time but that was nothing compared to the second time.

Ouch Gene. Hope it feels better soon. If I break a nail while cleaning today, I will NOT complain.

^ Thanks for the sympathetic "ouches." The finger is feeling much better now, so maybe I can get a good night's sleep tonight.
