Our thoughts and prayers are with them.

NC is a no go...bummer. But this storm is looking bad. Val and Jim have to evacuate their home in SC tomorrow. My sis was supposed to fly up from FL to meet us. That ain't happening, either.
Update on Val (Valentine - Darlene) She posted this on Facebook today, and I hope she won't mind me sharing it with her Vintage friends:

First time on FB in a long, long time. We will not evacuate and believe we will be safe. Our neighbors are all staying as well even though we are in the Evac Zone A. Should conditions worsen, we will go to be with our daughter in Zone C. With that being said, the Hurricane Party is up the street and will be preceded by a prayer meeting . The National Guard is posted at the corner and there is a huge police presence. Gas stations, grocery stores, pharmacies, etc. in the area are all closed. We're really hoping the storm blows itself out before its arrival here. Thanks to everyone who has inquired about our safety, etc. and a huge thank you to Carmen for the offer of shelter. It is much appreciated <3
I wish them well but it will take more than prayers and the guard if 140 mph winds hit. They should leave.

^ Yes, we talked a couple of times and she said they were staying after all. Not sure it would have been my decision, as well as for my sister in Melbourne FL who also decided to stay. Sis is in the middle of it right now!

Just cancelled our trip to New Bern. Kept hoping the flights would be cancelled for me due to Matthew, but since the timing changed on his arrival there, planes are flying today. Too bad...now we have to pay the bloody change fee when we rebook. Not worth it to go, since everything we were going to do with my relatives was cancelled in anticipation of the storm. The weather is still going to be pretty lousy.

Headed to Portland for the half marathon. Really hoping I get over this cold before I leave.
Awesome!! Please let us know how it goes!
Rough, but I finished. Slower than I lie, but others were also commenting about how the run seemed tough. None of us knew why. The rain wasn't really a factor even though it rained most of the race. Chalk it up to a bad race. Next one is in two weeks. GREAT swag though. Best I have ever gotten after 25 races over the past two years.

Well that is what the goodies were called. Anyway, we found out today why the race felt so tough to most of us- if you not in the first two starting grouos, you ran an extra 0.5 miles. The person who was suppose to tell the groups to turn left after the first two groups went by. The rest of the people went straight until the route made you turn back.

Oops...yeah, that extra half mile can be bad when you are struggling. The +1 saw a sports doc and is doing therapy/exercises for his Achilles, which is going well. He has been running more lately. Probably better that the race this past weekend in NC was postponed. We won't be down there, unfortunately, in two weeks when it's happening. Next race is the weekend before T-Day in Annapolis, so time to be prepared.

Took advantage of a gorgeous Fall day yesterday and went downtown to the National Gallery of Art and the East Gallery (which just reopened after a three-year renovation) to see a couple of new exhibits. One on drawings that artists in the age of Rembrandt used as a basis for their paintings. Many of the drawings were mounted next to the paintings. Very interesting. They even had artists' sketchbooks from the 1600s.

This weekend includes Fri night out with a couple of friends for oysters at Old Ebbitt Grill, a Washington institution. Oysters are not my fave, so will be having shrimp and other stuff. The others love them.

P.S. I used to run 5Ks just for fun - never really trained for them. The one time I ran a 10K, I just decided to go straight instead of turning right for the 5K. Spur of the moment. Worked out fine. Ended up running it in just about an hour. My first and last.
