What y'all doing about Sandy?

Aside from filling our cars with gas, getting some extra milk and making sure we have batteries there isn't much for us to do. We most likely won't have terribly damaging winds, but we're expected to get 6 to 10 inches of rain over the course of two days. We live in the mountains of New Jersey so flooding isn't really a problem, but not too far away, there probably will be much flood damage. I'm sure Wayne, NJ will be under water again, and I'm sure there will be much beach erosion all along the Jersey shore.
Most likely we'll all lose electric power for some time. Last year we lost power for about 5 hours, but people not too far from here were without power for up to a week. The utilities have suspended all vacations and days off and claim to be ready, but there are leaves still on the trees and with all the rain the tree branches will get heavy and take down electrical wires. I wish I had followed up on my plans to buy a portable generator, but I didn't. Now there are none available.
If the storm lands where it's expected to we should be right in the middle of it. We'll see.

I'm not worried about security at home.
1.) even people who are invited here, have a hard time finding the house.
2.) there will probably be enough trees down in the driveway it won't be worth the effort to get here.
( although they'll be welcome to clean up the trees if they care to try, I really would appreciate the effort.)
3.) I'm not sure there's a whole lot worth taking.
4.) Gabe is in the house. This makes it particularly dangerous for someone to enter. He drools, a lot, so they'll probably slip on it and break their neck.

I got food, I got diet Coke, I got popcorn and Rick's got beer. We're good!
Oh we have a few candles and old fashioned kerosene lamps around too. I remember mentioning those once and Legal Bill called me a pioneer girl.
We're not in the bulls eye, but they are not sure of the track.
My brother in law, the semi retired insurance adjuster from SC got called to work for his former company. Their home office is based in Albany, and they expect to have him on catastrophe duty until Christmas. They may not know where the storm is going, but where ever it does end up there will be property damage.

The +1 is headed to the commissary at 7 to get non-perishables. I'm thinking I need to stay at my mother's house - go over there Sun PM. I'm sure she won't leave the house. Better if she stays there anyway.

Besides power fuel, food and water, you should all consider security. The last time we had a big storm come through here was WIlma. Before that we had several in a few years. One of the things we notice especially with Charlie and Wilma was the staged looting that went on or was attempted.
We got back into our house before the emergency responders did. There were cars of people with broward and dade plates cruising the neighborhood looking for homes to loot. They emptied a best buy. The made night raids on Ft Myers Beach and Sanibel Island which had evacuated and were supposedly "sealed off".
I ended up standing in my front yard with a loaded ak47. Several of my neighbors ended up doing the same. A couple people were badly hurt when looters tried to take their stuff.
Be sure you're prepared in whatever way you feel best. There are people out there just waiting for the storm to end and police response is non existent.

Cars full of gas and tucked into the garage. Extra Gas cylinder for the grill, also safely tucked away. Coolers at the ready; enough dry ice in the freezer to tide it over for a few days.
Bread, milk, batteries at hand. Inverters for charging cell phones once the towers are back online. Dog food, parrot food and turtle food stocked. Chain saw tuned up and ready if needed. Invited Misters Smith, Wesson, Glock, and SigSauer over to spend a few days. Shotgun shells in stock if needed, also. Extra battery for our Lab's electric fence - can run for 48 hours and be remotely recharged.
Good luck to all, and stay safe!
